1986–1991
Firearms & Tactics
Assigned to the Firearms and Tactics Section; became a senior firearms instructor, NYS police shooting champion, and a national/regional shooting titleholder. Promoted to Sergeant in 1991.
1993–1996
Defensive Tactics & Training
Developed defensive tactics programs and joined the Training Unit. Later assigned to the Chief of Department’s Office as a senior training assessor, creating new training programs.
1996–2004
Law Enforcement Instructor
Trained thousands of law enforcement officers domestically and internationally. Conducted train-the-trainer courses and served as an expert witness in high-profile cases. Advised the NYS Division of Criminal Justice (DCJS).
2004–2016
College Professor
Retired after 22 years of service and became a full-time college professor at Monroe College, teaching undergraduate courses.
2018
Hall of Fame Recognition
Received the ICHF Hall of Fame “Grandmaster of the Year – USA” award.
March 2025
Seminar Leader
Completed the “Seminar Leader” program conducted by Grandmaster John Pellegrini, founder of the ICHF. As one of only twenty individuals worldwide with this title, he is officially authorized to teach the Combat Hapkido program. This prestigious title of “Professor” is part of Grandmaster Pellegrini’s legacy initiatives. Grandmaster Medina is the senior ICHF member to hold it.
